Army back-to-school supply drive is on now

Salvation Army wants to collect school supplies to help 5,000 kids in B.C.

Although nobody is ready to start thinking about back to school just yet, Salvation Army is getting a jump on the new academic year.

The Christian organization has started its backpack school supply drive again until Sept. 11.

The goal is to collect school supplies for 5,000 kids in B.C.

The Salvation Army has seen an increase in families coming in for support and demand for the backpack program has almost doubled, said Major Ken Ritson.

People can drop off new school supplies and backpacks at participating Starbucks and Fitness Town locations.

School supplies needed include pens, duotangs, pencils, sheets of paper, rulers, calculators, highlighters and binders.

These backpacks, filled with the necessary tools needed to begin a school year, are just what kids need for a fresh start to a new year of learning.
