More than 4,000 people gathered at the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Events Centre on Friday for an afternoon of inspiration and empowerment at the Be the Change Symposium.

The free event, marked as a day of personal and professional development, was held on a Pro-D day in the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ and Surrey school districts, so that hundreds of students could also attend.

The afternoon included presentations from Craig Kielburger, co-founder of Free the Children and We Day, Michael Smull, a developer of planning for individuals with developmental disabilities, Dr. V. Mark Durand, a psychologist working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dr. Victor Rios, a former L.A. gang member, and the stars from the television show and New York Times bestseller The Buried Life.

Also, in a special presentation, Wind & Tide Preschools presented a cheque for $70,000 to Kielburger for Free the Children. All the money was raised by families and staff at the centre’s daycares in ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ and Surrey.

And for those who felt inspired to start making a change in their communities, there was an opportunities fair, with more than 20 non-profit organizations set up to promote the work they do to help others.
