The ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Beef and Swine Club has been in operation for 60 years. Our club had its first meeting of 2012 in January, and elections were held. Brianna Anderson is president with Dustin Annett as vice-president.
Benjamin Macadam holds the secretary position. Brandon Koch is handling the money with position of treasurer.
Most of the beef members have previously purchased their 2012 market steers. Our first weigh-in was Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Aldor Acres Dairy Centre.
An exciting event that club members participated in was speech night in February.
Our top senior speakers were Sarah Douglas, Sarah Macadam, Dustin Annett, Brianna Anderson and Brandon Koch. Honourable mention went to Benjamin Macadam. We had a record number of senior participants at 15.
Speech topics varied from Disneyland to cats to the English language. Our junior speech competition was held on Friday, March 2, with 11 participants. Advancing to the district finals will be Jeremiah Macadam, Clare Douglas, Lane Yakemchuk and Ashley Haines. The juniors entertained us with speech topics like mythical health remedies, space junk and dinosaurs.
Most of the 26 members of ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Beef and Swine participated in 4-H to the Extreme, a regional education event held at Aldergrove Community Secondary School.
More than 300 members and parents attended and learned about different aspects of the 4-H program, ranging from halter making, how to keep more accurate records to basic gardening skills.
It was a great day, with many sponsors including the Otter Co-op and Farm Credit Corporation.
The club members are all very excited to begin this new year.
