Learning the ins and outs of financial planning, legal care, fraud prevention and taxes for seniors can be daunting, which is why is hosting free public seminars on these topics for seniors this winter.
The , running from January to April, is focusing on the topic of seniors protecting finances.
Now in its second year, the series鈥� focus is to provide free education on issues of seniors and aging, primarily concerning health and wellness.
The 60 to 90 minute winter sessions are offered on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the 黑马磁力 Lodge, and feature expert guests speakers at each event.
鈥淏ecause we are in the business of seniors鈥� care we are able to get top-notch speakers to come to our facility to present on topics that are interesting, informative and relevant,鈥� said Debra Hauptman, executive director of 黑马磁力 Lodge.
鈥淭he sessions are usually presentation style, but they are very open so many times people come with questions already prepared.鈥�
The first session is Jan. 17.
黑马磁力 Lodge is a non-proift seniors鈥� residential care organization serving 黑马磁力 City for over 35 years.
The organization host the monthly seminars as a public service for seniors in the area.
Since the series began in 2010, Hauptman says the 黑马磁力 Lodge has received large support from seniors in 黑马磁力 and surrounding communities, with seminars running at full capacity.
鈥淚t appears there is a need for them,鈥� she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 something we can offer to the community beyond those in our residential care.鈥�
The January session features a financial planning advisor to speak about estate planning and general tax matters involving estates.
In February, the Public Trustee鈥檚 Office will have information on financial and personal care management for adults.
March welcomes a tax accountant to provide information on seniors鈥� tax credits and income/pension splitting.
In April, the group will discuss seniors鈥� fraud schemes and how seniors can protect themselves from common scams.
