Rivers Day fun this weekend

LEPS offering host of activities at Williams Park Sept. 29 and 30

The ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Environmental Partners Society has organized a number of events and activities:

Rivers Day Festival at Williams Park is an ideal opportunity for volunteers who are interested in environmental conservation and for people who enjoy interacting with the public. Volunteers are needed on  Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A large variety of tasks are available. All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt, breakfast and lunch.

LEPS is once again looking for donor fruit trees and volunteers willing to help with the Community Harvest Program.

If you know of any unpicked fruit trees, stop by the LEPS office to pick up some brochures to distribute.

Call 604-532-3515 or email scaptein@tol.ca for more information.

Heritage Apple Day:  On Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., enjoy guided tours to heritage apple trees, taste different varieties and talk with experts. Plein Air artists will paint park landscapes for a 1 p.m. exhibit, and children can enjoy games and crafts at the Heritage Area on Allard Crescent, north of 96 Avenue and 4 km west of Fort ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦.

WaterWeeks 2012, an annual series of free family events designed to encourage citizen participation in environmental conservation, kicks off on Sept. 30 with the BC River’s Day Festival. Join LEPS and the Township for the 32nd annual celebration of rivers in Canada at Williams Park, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Activities include viewing juvenile salmon and aquatic bugs, building bird houses, streamside tree planting, Stream Care Puppet Theatre, live music, and great food.

Check the LEPS website for other exciting WaterWeeks events which run until October.

Edible Garden Contest: Send LEPS a photo of your urban food garden.

They will post the photos to Facebook and the photo with the most number of ‘likes’ will win an exciting prize pack.

Deadline for submissions is Sept. 30. Submit photos to education@tol.ca.
