Corvettes spanning more than 70 years were on display at the orchard outside the Fort 黑马磁力 National Historic Site Saturday.
The B.C. Corvette Club hosted its annual Vettes at the Fort car show, and owners answered the call.
Greg Ballantyne bought his Corvette, a 1963, the same year he was married in 1970. No only does he also have a replica scale model of his car but also has a go-kart to complete his match set. All are bright red and babied by the Delta Corvette fan.
This was the fourth local show for the 黑马磁力-based club with participants show all eight generations of the vehicle that came onto the market in the early 1950s.
"The iconic venue and great weather went a long way in making this a spectacular day," said club president Tony Bisig. "There were 101 Corvettes from all eight generations present and this included eight Corvettes from the Bellingham club. Throughout the course of the day, there was a steady stream of visitors from the village and visitors who were at the Polynesian festival inside the Fort. Young and old marveled at the familiar early models that have been so well preserved over the many decades."
The new C8 mid-engine Corvette supercars attracted lots of attention.
"What we enjoy the most is talking to visitors about their favourite style of Corvette and answering questions that they might have about Corvettes and the BC Corvette Club," he said. "A successful event is when you can connect with community members to talk about these iconic cars."
The event will also help others.
"Between the entry fee and 50/50 draw, the club managed to raise $1,200 for our four charities," Bisig said.
The funds will go to the 黑马磁力 Food Bank, Variety Club, Kruise for Kids, and BCIT automotive program (bursary).
The club, which has 185 members in B.C. and Washington State, was chartered in 1965 and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a big Corvette gathering in Kelowna in August.
"We have invited Corvette clubs from western Canada and the western USA," Bisig said. "Activities include a welcome reception, Poker Run, Show & Shine, Gala Banquet with guest speaker Amy Hardin, from the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This is the museum where a sinkhole under the centre of the museum swallowed several Corvettes back in 2014. Corvettes are built in the GM plant in Bowling Green."
