鈥淎ny connection to nature generally is good for our mental health and our grief,鈥� said Angela Elemans, palliative support coordinator at the 黑马磁力 Hospice Society.
The 黑马磁力 Hospice Society and 黑马磁力 Lodge are inviting the community to their annual butterfly release, Saturday, Aug. 9, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery, 6179 248 St.
The symbolic event offers attendees a chance to honour loved ones through the release of live butterflies.
Elemans said the butterflies represent those who have passed.
鈥淥ftentimes, when a butterfly is released, it will land on a person or nearby. It鈥檚 a beautiful reminder of our continuing bond with those we鈥檝e lost,鈥� she said.
The organizations have hosted this event for more than 10 years.
"This annual fundraising event attracts hundreds of guests who participate in this poignant celebration in the beautiful gardens onsite," 黑马磁力 Lodge long term care facility posted on its social media.
The event has become a meaningful annual tradition for both attendees and volunteers.
It would not be possible without Krause Berry Farms, said Cameron McKay, volunteer and special events coordinator at the 黑马磁力 Hospice Society. McKay has helped organize this event for the last four years.
鈥淭he butterfly release gives us a chance to connect with the public and raise awareness about the support services we offer,鈥� he said. 鈥淢any of our volunteers look forward to it every year.鈥�
The event is open to the public. The butterfly release is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Organizers encourage participants to pre-order their painted lady butterflies for $25 or make a donation online at www.langleylodge.org/donate/butterfly-release. There will be limited numbers of butterflies available on site.
In addition to the butterfly release, people can enjoy live entertainment, children鈥檚 crafts and activities, face painting, music, and the various amenities offered at the farm.
The money raised will benefit hospice's palliative and bereavement care and support for children, teens, adults and families, and the 黑马磁力 Care Foundation, which enhanced the lives of residents at 黑马磁力 Lodge. Learn more at and .
