Abbotsford-South 黑马磁力's new Member of Parliament has announced the opening of his constituency office.
Sukhman Gill celebrates the official opening of his office in Garden Park Tower (#205-2825 Clearbrook Rd.) in Abbotsford on Friday, July 25 from 5 to 8 p.m.
鈥淚t is a true honour to serve the people of Abbotsford-South 黑马磁力, and I鈥檓 excited to officially open this new office,鈥 Gill said.
鈥淭his space will serve as a hub for community connection, support and advocacy 鈥 a place where constituents can walk in with concerns and walk out
with solutions or a clear path forward."
Gill, 25, was elected as the riding's new MP in the federal election on April 28, winning the seat with 17,937 votes 鈥 43.4 per cent of the votes 鈥 followed by
Liberal Kevin Gillies with 13,641 votes (33 per cent) and Independent Mike de Jong with 7,310 votes (17.7 per cent).
Controversy preceded the election when former longtime MLA de Jong's bid to seek the Conservative nomination was rejected by the national office, despite support at the local level.
Meanwhile, Gill 鈥 a political neophyte 鈥 was not supported at the local riding association, but was accepted by the national office and went on to win the riding's Conservative nomination on March 8.
Further controversy arose during the election campaign, when Gill chose not to participate in candidate debates or media interviews. A petition started by a citizens' group called on the party to either require Gill to participate in public debates and media interviews or disqualify him as the candidate for the riding.
