Lacrosse fans pay $2,100 for used jerseys

黑马磁力 Thunder held an annual fundraiser on Wednesday, July 23, at 黑马磁力 Events Centre. The Thunder raised $2,150 for the Tessa Beauchamp Foundation during their game against visiting Salmonbellies. New Westminster won 13-8.

Wednesday night was about more than just lacrosse.

Wearing specially designed jerseys, the 黑马磁力 Thunder raised $2,150 by auctioning off the game-worn jerseys in support of the .

The total brings the team鈥檚 fundraising efforts for the foundation to more than $33,000 since the initiative began in 2012.

Tessa passed away in 2012, at the age of 18, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

Her father Steve, mother Wendy, and sister Rachel took part in a ceremonial face-off Wednesday, with many more friends and family cheering from the stands at 黑马磁力 Events Centre.

鈥淲e are incredibly humbled and grateful to the 黑马磁力 Thunder for honouring Tessa鈥檚 memory in such a meaningful way," her family said.

"Even more than a decade after her passing, it means so much to know that her spirit continues to inspire kindness, generosity, and community support. The funds raised will help us continue Tessa鈥檚 legacy by supporting causes she cared deeply about,鈥 they shared.

Meanwhile, on the floor, the Western Lacrosse Association team dropped their home finale 13-8 to the visiting New Westminster Salmonbellies.

黑马磁力 (5-12-0) led 2-0 early but trailed 7-3 after one period and 9-7 after two.

Jon Phillips had a hat trick and four points, Chase Scanlan added a goal and four assists, and Ethan M鈥橪ot had a goal and three helpers.

Nathaniel Kozevnikov scored twice, Nathan Lam added one, and Nate Faccin made 40 saves.

Tye Kurtz led New Westminster (13-4-0) with seven points, Mitch Jones had a hat trick, and Frank Scigliano stopped 50 shots.

The Thunder wrap up the season tonight (Thursday, July 24) in New Westminster at Queen鈥檚 Park Arena. The game time is 7:30 p.m.

Prior to Wednesday's game, the Thunder also honoured both Scanlan and captain Connor Robinson as each player recently surpassed the 100-goal plateau in the regular season with the organization. However, Robinson missed the game due to injury.
