200 St./0 Ave. intersection won't be built

黑马磁力 Township had planned to construct an intersection at 200 Street and 0 Avenue, once construction of the High Point  residential subdivision was more or less complete.

Now, in what Councillor Jordan Bateman described as 鈥渟ome pretty smart traffic calming,鈥 council has agreed to residents鈥 demand that vehicle access be barred.

Only emergency vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will have access in and out of the equestrian-themed subdivision at this point, council decided on Monday.

The entrance to High Point is from 200 Street, south of 8 Avenue.

The plan, transportation engineering manager Paul Cordeiro said in a report, had been to build a full intersection once the majority of the houses at High Point had been built. The connection was not provided earlier in order to deter construction vehicles from accessing the development from 0 Avenue.

The signatures of 48 residents represented more than 50 per cent of the properties sold at High Point, prompting the change.

When the issue was discussed on Monday, Councillor Kim  Richter said that there should have been more consultation involving residents from a wider area.

Councillor Steve Ferguson asked about the possibility of taking another look at the arrangement in the future, including opening the entrance to all traffic.

That鈥檚 not likely, administrator Mark Bakken advised.

鈥淥nce it鈥檚 closed I don鈥檛 think that residents would be supportive,鈥 he said.
