Driver flees the scene of fatal Surrey crash

Police seeking public鈥檚 assistance after Saturday night collision

Surrey RCMP is requesting the public鈥檚 assistance in a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday, Nov. 25 in Newton.

Just before 9:30 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 128 Street and 82 Avenue, a release notes.

A white Ford Mustang was travelling southbound on 128 Street, while a black Toyota Corolla was northbound on 128 Street; at the intersection of 82 Avenue, the black Corolla executed a left-hand, westbound turn, into the path of the Mustang, the RCMP release states.

The subsequent collision caused significant damage to both vehicles, with the male driver of the Mustang transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The adult male passenger of the Corolla was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition and has since succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at hospital.

The driver of the Corolla fled the scene on foot. He was described as a South Asian male in his 20s, wearing a grey hoodie and jeans.

Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors.

Anyone with more information, including dash-cam footage around the area of 128 Street, between 80 and 84 Avenue, between 9:20 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Nov. 25, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, and quote file number 2023-194726.
