The Independent Investigations Office is looking for witnesses and people with video footage related to a man鈥檚 arrest after a 鈥渕otor vehicle incident鈥 on July 9 in Surrey.

The Whalley-based police watchdog said Mounties discovered a man on scene had an outstanding warrant and he was arrested. This was at 1:25 a.m. on 192 Street between 69A and 70 Avenues in Surrey.

An IIO press release indicates the man was injured during his arrest, was taken to hospital.

The independent civilians oversight agency found his injury met the threshold of serious harm as defined by the Police Act. 鈥淭he IIO鈥檚 investigation continues to determine if the police actions during the arrest were necessary, reasonable, and proportionate during the circumstances,鈥 the press release states.

The IIO asks for anyone with 鈥渞elevant information鈥 or video footage of the incident to contact its Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or through the iiobc.ca website.

The agency is tasked with investigating any police-related incidents involving serious harm or death.
