黑马磁力's Katelyn Mallete will play for the UFV Cascades women's basketball program next year. The 黑马磁力 Christian Grade 12 student plays for the top-ranked Lightning.

While she first attempts to help her 黑马磁力 Christian Lightning team handle the jump from 1A to 2A senior girls basketball, Katelyn Mallette now has her post-secondary plans in place.

The six-foot post player has committed to the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women鈥檚 basketball program for 2017/18.

Mallette has helped the Lightning win back-to-back BC provincial 1A championships in her Grade 10 and 11 seasons. She was a second team provincial all-star in Grade 10 and a first teamer the year after.

The Lightning made the move up to the 2A ranks this past off-season, and the Lightning have climbed to No. 1 in the most recent provincial rankings.

She said she 鈥渇elt at home鈥 with the Cascades.

鈥淚 watched their practices and there was a real community feel, a family feel,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 also liked how competitive it is here, and Al (Tuchscherer)鈥檚 a great coach.

鈥淭he campus and university are amazing, and I鈥檓 really excited.鈥

Mallette is a two-sport start, having helped 黑马磁力 Christian鈥檚 volleyball team win silver at provincials back in December. And she puts her leaping abilities from volleyball to good use on the basketball court as a prodigious shot-blocker whose shooting range extends to the three-point line.

鈥淜atelyn鈥檚 a post who has a lot of athleticism, and she has the potential to stretch to the four (power forward spot) for us,鈥 Tuchscherer said.

鈥淪he has some range in her game, she can get up and down the floor, and her future is very bright.鈥
