A four-minute drought to end the game proved costly for the Trinity Western Spartans men鈥檚 basketball team.
The Spartans found themselves tied at 65 on Saturday night against the UVic Vikes but the Vikes scored the final four minutes to prevail 69-65. The loss came on the heels off a 72-63 defeat the night before to that same Victoria squad and dropped TWU鈥檚 record to 2-14.
"This was a good weekend for our team. Again tonight we competed. Down the stretch we had opportunities to get big stops and we did. We just did not have some shots fall during crunch time," said TWU coach Aaron Muhic.
Patrick Vandervelden led the Spartans in scoring both nights.
On Friday, he had 19 points while Vartan Tanielian and Pogos Trunyan each came off the bench to score a dozen points.
Vandervelden added 16 points and 13 rebounds in Saturday鈥檚 rematch while Josiah Meppelink had a dozen points and seven assists.
The Spartans on the road this weekend in Calgary with a pair of games against the Mount Royal Cougars.
