Gators finish fourth

Walnut Grove suffers first two losses of season after opening with lengthy winning streak

After winning their first 14 games of the season — including beating three American opponents — the Walnut Grove Gators suffered their first loss of the season.

The senior boys basketball team fell 91-78 to Seattle’s Ballard Beavers in the semifinals of the UVic Alumni Invitational on Thursday in Victoria. The Gators then lost the bronze medal match 79-78 to Oak Bay in overtime on Friday.

Walnut Grove did return to their winning ways with a 99-43 exhibition victory over Terry Fox on Saturday.

For the season, Walnut Grove is 15-2.

The Gators played Kitsilano in an exhibition game yesterday (Tuesday) and will compete at the Terry Fox Legal Beagle tournament this weekend.
