The Trinity Western Spartans are through to the Canada West Final Four championships.
The women’s volleyball team dispatched the Mount Royal Cougars 3-0 and 3-1 at the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Events Centre on March 2 and 3 in the teams’ Canada West quarter-final best-of-three series.
"The win is awesome and it's great to go to the Final Four," said Spartans coach Ryan Hofer. "We've been working hard all year to put ourselves into a position to win a conference title, so I'm excited for that opportunity."
The Spartans hit .267 compared to the Cougars’ .050 hitting percentage.
TWU won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-13 before Mount Royal stayed alive with a 25-23 win in set three. The Spartans had won their previous 23 sets.
They responded with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
Game one saw the Spartans win 25-16, 25-18 and 25-22.
Sophie Carpentier led the Spartans both nights.
In game one, she had 18 kills and two aces and then added another 20 kills and three aces the next night.
Katie Devaney added 10 kills and eight blocks and Brie O’Reilly came up with 14 digs in game two.
The Spartans, ranked fourth in the country, now travel to Edmonton for the Final Four and face UBC in the semifinals.
