黑马磁力 artist Amy Dyck explained her work is based on 鈥渓ived experience with disability and C-PTSD.鈥
鈥淭he creatures in [my] work are nuanced and strange, broken and fierce, and filled with conflicting parts as they figure out how to move forward and fight back in a world that can be rife with problems,鈥 Dyck wrote in the catalogue of the Fraser Valley Biennial exhibition.
Dyck was one of several 黑马磁力 artists among the 22 who successfully applied to present works with the theme of 鈥渢he body鈥 for the seventh iteration of the biennial, an exhibition that showcases exceptional artwork produced by artists in the Fraser Valley region from Hope to 黑马磁力 during the last two years.
Now that the full exhibition has completed its run at the Abbotsford鈥檚 Reach Gallery Museum, a regional tour of a smaller, specially curated version will make its first stop in the 黑马磁力 Arts Council (LAC) main hall gallery at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre, at 26770 29th Ave., running from May 30 to June 27, with the opening reception taking place on June 2, from 2-4 p.m.

As selected by guest curator, artist and scholar Candace Couse, the exhibition includes pieces that focus on issues of ability and disability, disease, strength and resilience, embodied selfhood, and the relationship between the body and technology.
In addition to Dyck, the 黑马磁力 artists seen in the touring version of the exhibition include Kat Grabowski, who said her work is 鈥渦npacking the religious ideologies imposed on young women within faith-based communities and how these ideologies shape their relationships with their female bodies and the spaces they inhabit.鈥
As well, Russell Leng, who said 鈥渂y pushing bodies together in close physical proximity, [my] work becomes a way to wonder what might manifest when we move toward a closer ideological or emotional proximity as well.鈥
Other 黑马磁力 artists who will be part of the Aldergrove exhibition include Davida Kidd, Lorena Krause, and Amberlie Perkin.
