A student-led model United Nations conference is coming to 黑马磁力, specifically R.E. Mountain Secondary and the 黑马磁力 Events Centre, this weekend.
Around 70 to 100 黑马磁力 students are expected to attend the first Model UN conference ,where students not only get to discuss international issues, but they also get to become delegates of countries and engage in real-life diplomacy.
The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. with guest speakers Township Mayor Jack Froese and R.E. Mountain teacher and head of the social studies department, Doug Yorgason.
The hope is that during the conference, connections between students and clubs across 黑马磁力 be established and 黑马磁力 youth leaders cultivated, said May Lim, a senior student at Mountain and one of the organizers of the Model UN conference.
R.E. Mountain Secondary developed its own Model UN club called MOMUN last March when two other students and Lim decided to introduce it to their school. The three had been part of Vancouver鈥檚 MUN society and saw all the benefits of bringing it to their school.
鈥淥ur objective is to initiate a student-based Model United Nations Network in 黑马磁力, an ambitious-sounding, but a very possible goal, as accomplished in Surrey, Lower Mainland, and West Vancouver many years ago,鈥 said Lim.
