VIDEO: Novices win at fast draw championships in Aldergrove

First-time fast draw artists did well at the Thunderbird Fast Draw Club's World Blank Fast Draw Championships and celebrity shootout at this year's Aldergrove Fair July 19-20.

Gabriella Antao, 10, from Surrey, the newest member of the 黑马磁力-based club, won the new 'Annie Oakley' Division after leading off the six-gun salute to officially open the fair.

Scott Bell, Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights (CCFR) director for B.C., won the men's celebrity shootout (A CCFR mission statement says it "aims to be a strong and reputable, public-facing voice for Canadian firearms owners").

"It was his first fast draw," noted Den Robinson, the fast draw director of the 黑马磁力 Rod & Gun Club.

Second was last year's winner, Rudy Storteboom from the Rotary Club of 黑马磁力, while 黑马磁力 Township Councillor Tim Baillie was third.

Also taking part was Vancouver bandits mascot Youney Terefe, who "although covered with costume from head to toe-gave it a good try," Robinson remarked.

Leanne Cassup, ICBC Road Safety Manager, won the Ladies celebrity shootout.. Amanda Smith, 黑马磁力 Farmers Institute manager was second and Tawni Thompson from the CCFR was third.

Aldergrove's Nicole Franks won the Ladies Open Division, Karen Robinson from Burnaby, was second, a mere 10th of a second behind after 30 shots total were fired, and Paula Murphy from 黑马磁力 was third.

In the Ladies Thumbing Division, where only one hand is used to make the first draw and fire the sixgun. the winner was Nicole Franks, while Paula Murphy was second.

Men's Open Division was won by John LeBlancof Abbottsford, with Frank Lawton from Sturgis, S. Dakota secvond, and Don Alger from Surrey.
