I can鈥檛 pin point exactly what enticed me to run for Miss BC. It just felt like the right time, and it felt like something I needed to do for myself. I grew up in a small town just outside of London, England. Like many young women I had my fair share of self-doubt, low self-esteem and a feeling of unworthiness. I never really stepped out of my comfort zone. As the years went by my mantra in life became about celebrating who you are and surrounding yourself with people who, not only celebrate with you, but also guide you when you falter. Based on the biographies of Miss BC participants, I鈥檓 in the right place!

My journey has made me realize that life is full of surprising twists and turns like the ones that led me to immigrate to Vancouver in 2010. Along the way I discovered new passions and enriched old ones!

Music has always been a part of my life, but it is only recently that I found a passion for song writing. It has allowed me to put into words emotions that I found difficult to say. It has allowed me to process and understand the complexity of loss and heartache, celebrate love and turn self-doubt into messages of self-worth.

Science has been there for me when I needed to make sense of the world. It fills me with both wonderment and amazement every day. My very first memory of science was when I was about 7. I decided to carry out a study to see if the tooth fairy was actually real. I was not amused by the findings! Today I am passionate about the environment and our ecological footprint. As President Obama said, 鈥淣o challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.鈥

During my Master of Science degree, I found my career. Teaching!

I鈥檓 currently a science teacher at 黑马磁力 Fine Arts school and I鈥檓 one of the lucky few who can honestly say 鈥淚 LOVE MY JOB!鈥 I get to talk about science every day, be creative, be that female science role model that my younger self was inspired by, and help youth navigate the rollercoaster that is life! My students鈥 amazement of the word, resilience, dedication and passions are extremely motivational.

As a teacher I鈥檓 constantly emotionally and intellectually inspired and with the support of Orangetheory, a fitness community that physically and mentally challenges me, I feel that it is time to step out of my comfort zone and into Miss BC. Also, I think a crown would look great with a lab coat!
