It was a great debut for 黑马磁力鈥檚 newest soccer squad.
The 黑马磁力 United鈥檚 U21 men鈥檚 squad scored a 5-2 victory over the Sapperton Rovers on Saturday at Willoughby Park.
Nate Turner scored three times while Garrett Peters notched two goals.
The team, which plays in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League, was created through a partnership between the 黑马磁力 United Youth Soccer Association, Trinity Western University鈥檚 men鈥檚 program and the 黑马磁力 Athletic FC men鈥檚 soccer club.
This will allow top players from the area who were born in 1990 or later to compete at a high level while staying close to home.
鈥淭his is an important step forward for our club as we work to implement the club charter requirement of delivering 鈥榗radle to grave鈥 soccer in the community,鈥 said LUYSA president Betty Boucas.
鈥淚t also allows 黑马磁力 United鈥檚 young men who have completed youth soccer at (the U18 level) to be able to continue to compete at a higher level in their own community.鈥
Some of the team members are part of the Spartans soccer program.
鈥淭his is valuable for Spartan soccer in providing opportunities for our youngest players to play competitive soccer when they enter our program,鈥 said Trinity Western coach Pat Rohla. 鈥淚t is also great to keep 黑马磁力 youth soccer players competing.鈥
鈥淔orming a 黑马磁力 U21 entry in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League is a excellent step forward for youth and men鈥檚 soccer in 黑马磁力,鈥 added 黑马磁力 Athletic FC president Ewen Dobbie.
鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to working to make this team a success.鈥
