The Lower Mainland Green Team is back in the Township to help at a local park on Sunday, July 27.
The public is invited to help remove invasive English ivy & Himalayan blackberry at James Anderson Park and the Willoughby Trail
All ages, abilities and experience levels are welcome. Organizers provide training and equipment.
This activity will run rain or shine.
The Lower Mainland Green Team (LMGT) organizes clean ups and weed pulls at public greenspaces and parks throughout the region.
Those taking part in a LMGT event for the first time must fill out a volunteer registration form on the .
After filling out the form, people must still sign up to take part in this particular activity. Complete details of each Lower Mainland Green Team event are on Meetup or people can RSPV by emailing Max at Max@greenteamscanada.ca. Also email with any questions.
Organizers ask people to sign up so they can plan to have the right amount of staff, equipment, and snacks.
If people must cancel their attendance, they are asked to email right away.
The group will meet at the entrance to James Anderson Park (beside the Peregrine House School) off of 66 Avenue at about 204 Street. Watch for signs.
The LMGT website about the event has details on how to bike and take transit to the weed pull. There will also be street parking at this site. Carpooling is encouraged and people can find out about possible rides on the site.
As well, there are washrooms available at this park.
What to bring:
• Long sleeves & long, thick pants (like jeans) to protect you from thorny plants and ticks
• Refillable water bottle
• Sturdy, comfortable closed toe shoes/boots or rain boots
• Rain jacket in case it rains
• Hat
Organizers provide:
• Gloves, tools, and safety glasses
• Educational instruction and safety talk on what to do (no experience necessary!)
• Snacks
• Photos of you in action
• Volunteer letters (on request)
Schedule:
• Meet at 9:45 a.m. (please be on time)
• Check-in
• Receive instruction and demo for activity
• Remove invasive plants
• Take a snack break around 11:30 a.m.
• Continue removing invasive plants until 1 p.m.
• Pack up tools and supplies
• Check-out
After:
