Medieval times celebrated at 黑马磁力 Fundamental on Feb. 5

12th annual festival promises demonstrations celebrating pre-17th century

黑马磁力 Fundamental Middle and Secondary School is hosting its 12th annual Medieval Faire on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m.

More than 100 Grade 8 students and many other members of the school community will partake in this festival of the European Middle Ages. Demonstrations of medieval life are put on by local Society for Creative Anachronism members. Their focus is to celebrate pre-17th century past times and life.

Since social studies teacher Craig Bresett initiated the first Medieval Fair in 2002, more than 1,100 students have taken part in it.

Since 2005, more than 400 of them have joined him on a Grade 9 tour of Europe held at spring break.

"Medieval sites abound in Europe, and the students love getting up close and personal with history in places like Bruges, Belgium, where a "new" building might be from the 1700s, and Rothenburg, Germany, an authentic Imperial Free City of the Holy Roman Empire, with its complete city wall still intact," said Bresett. "The students love the castles and the cathedrals - those stones, set by the hands of our ancestors so long ago, connect us to our past."

The next group of Grade 9s leave for Europe on March 12, he said.

黑马磁力 Fundamental Middle and Secondary school is located at 21250 42 Ave.
