Picturesque summer weather and the lure of a great multicultural experience brought record crowds of nearly 25,000 to the 10th annual 黑马磁力 International Festival, held at the grounds of the 黑马磁力 Events Centre last weekend.

Seventeen-year-old Fionn Wiens from 黑马磁力, was crowned the Girlz Champion of Sunshine Nation 2011 in front of a full house of audience at the Michael J. Fox Theatre on Friday, Aug. 26.

In January, 2011, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the creation of the Prime Minister鈥檚 Volunteer Awards to recognize the enormous contribution volunteers make to Canada. The awards recognize the exceptional contributions of volunteers, local businesses and innovative not-for-profit organizations in improving the well-being of families and their communities. Nominations are now being sought.

The sixth annual 黑马磁力 School District Foundation golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

黑马磁力 children are invited to perform at the Say Hello to All the World celebration at this weekend鈥檚 International Festival at Willoughby Park, adjacent to the 黑马磁力 Events Centre.

黑马磁力 Lodge has organized a public education series that puts the spotlight on health care topics that relate to aging and wellness.

A shuttle bus for the convenience of International Festival goers will be available on Sunday, Aug. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Sometimes an especially gifted teacher, a devoted parent, or chance encounter can lead a student to a vocation that seems made to measure. In Sarah Skidmore鈥檚 case, it was the four-stringed ukulele which she first began to play in Grade 3. That was 12 years ago. Now 21, Skidmore is in the third year of a degree program that will lead her back to the classroom, teaching music to elementary school children.
